Austin Cindric drove his brand new NASCAR ride to victory in the Daytona 500 on Sunday, holding off Bubba Wallace in an overtime shootout. Cindric, a rookie in the NASCAR Cup Series, took the checkered flag after a crash-filled race that saw several lead changes.
Cindric started the race in 12th place, but quickly moved up through the field. He took the lead for the first time on lap 100 and held it for several laps before Wallace passed him on lap 150. Cindric retook the lead on lap 170 and held it until the caution flag came out on lap 190.
The race was restarted on lap 195 and Cindric held off Wallace to win the race. It was Cindric's first career NASCAR Cup Series victory.
